Breast Implants/Augmentation

Every woman desire to have sumptuous and beautiful breasts. It is the firmness, shape, and size of their breasts that dictate their look and attractiveness. Thus, a lack of them is no less than an obstacle to the self-esteem of a woman. Also, it is one problem that she might not be able to share and discuss with people around her. This is exactly where breast augmentation surgery can help you. It provides the best and permanent solution to those who have underdeveloped breasts.

What is a breast implant/augmentation?

Medically known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation is usually performed for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes, whether to add volume to smaller breasts, for simply creating a voluptuous figure, and for restoring asymmetrical breasts. Although the perils associated with breast implants are many, a large number of women prefer undergoing this procedure to achieve more attractive breast.

Why undergo breast augmentation surgery?

  • If you have reduced the size of your breasts followed by pregnancy and lactation or significant weight loss
  • If you have asymmetry in one or both breasts
  • Congenital defects or deformity that lead to abnormal or underdeveloped breasts
  • Poland’s syndrome-condition in which a woman lacks breasts altogether because of hormonal deficiency or congenital defects or both

Different approaches used for breast augmentation

When it comes to breast augmentation, there are different approaches used for it.

  • Infra-mammary Breast Augmentation – This is the most commonly used approach for this procedure. In this particular approach, the surgeon makes the incision in the crease right below the breast where the breast tissue joins the chest wall.
  • Peri-areolar breast augmentation – The surgeon makes a semi-circular incision around the areola’s lower part. The areola is the dark part of the skin surrounding the nipple.
  • Axillary or Trans-axillary breast augmentation – In this particular approach, the surgeon makes an incision in the armpit for inserting the breast implant.
  • Umbilical or Trans-Umbilical Breast Augmentation – In this method, the surgeon inserts a breast implant through the belly button or umbilicus using an endoscope.

Procedure for breast augmentation

The surgeon would make an incision for creating a pocket either under the muscle or under the breast tissue, inserts and places the implant pushes it to the center so that it is right under the nipple and sutures the incision. Some plastic surgeons prefer placing the implant under the chest muscle. It takes about two to three hours to complete the procedure. Generally, a patient can go home on the same day as the procedure. In some cases, a patient has to spend a day or two at the hospital. The sutures are carefully covered with a gauze dressing for promoting speedy healing.

As described above, it will take nearly two to three hours to complete the surgery. You will be released from the hospital either the same day or in a day or two. The surgeon would remove the stitches within a week after the surgery. You might have to stay for ten to fifteen days after surgery in India before returning to the home country.

Expected Results

When it comes to the results of breast augmentation surgery, they are more than satisfying and pleasing. Women can get proportionate and fuller breasts. This ultimately boosts their self-esteem and confidence. A patient has to wear special supportive bras that help in reshaping the breasts. The scars do not only heal uneventfully but are also hidden inconspicuously.

Recovery after the procedure

You can expect to feel mild discomfort and pain for a few days after the procedure. This can be easily controlled and managed with medications. You can resume normal activities within the time of a week. It will take nearly six to eight weeks before you get back to the strenuous activities. Make sure you follow to the instructions given by the surgeon for speedy recovery.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

During the surgery, the breast tissue is pushed to the surface as the implant is inserted behind the breast tissue. Once the surgery is done, it may become a lot easier to perform self-examination of your breasts for gaining familiarity with the breast tissue. You can wear clothes of your choice without having to feel embarrassed about the appearance of your breasts. Your breasts would be in proportion with the rest of your figure further enhancing your overall looks and confidence.
